I remember having the urge to apply for a job that "I" thought I was highly unqualified for. I was nervous and started doing a mental checklist of the things I couldn't do. From there the words "you don't have what it takes" kept coming to mind. Instead of initially casting down the thoughts, I fed into them. I started "measuring" myself to the qualifications that were listed for the job. “I don’t have a degree! Why should I even apply?”

Then I remembered the reason behind why I applied—God. Why was God leading me to apply for this particular job? There had to be something behind it. Was there something He needed to prove to me? I was standing in a place of unbelief and had caught amnesia as to who He is and who He says I am. So I started declaring: “I am qualified for the job and I have what it takes," and I proceeded forth and applied for the job.

I was reminded of the story of Moses and how he questioned God when he was summoned to go before Pharaoh to deliver the Israelites out of Egypt. “But Moses protested to God, 'Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?'” (Exodus 3:11, NLT). Moses clearly didn't think he was qualified to do what God was asking of him. Maybe he considered his past mistakes and felt that God couldn’t possibly use someone like him. But God gave him the assurance that He was with him. “God answered, 'I will be with you.'” (Exodus 3:12a, NLT).

Sometimes, all we need is reassurance that the One who leads us is the same One who will be with us in the process. We have to be mindful that we have what it takes to do what God is asking of us. Even in those moments when we may feel as if we are unqualified to do so, we have to remember that God Himself qualifies those He calls. You've got it in you and you have what it takes to do what God is leading you to! Don’t think otherwise.
