As Christians, we are made to be lights in the dark world. This doesn't mean we have to dance around at all times with butterflies and rainbows. It doesn't mean we have to have a fake smile plastered onto our face. It's easy to feel like this when life is going great. We go about our day with a pep in our step. But what about when life isn't okay? What about when the storms roll in?

My husband and I lost a baby this week. Although I only got to carry that baby for a mere 7 weeks, God spoke its life into motion with just a breath. And He chose me to be its mother. The day I found out God had my baby back up in heaven with Him felt like a dark hole left in my heart. A piece of me was now missing. Two long painful weeks of the miscarrying process. It was the darkest time I think I'd ever faced so far in this life. I couldn't understand why God would create life just for it to be taken away.

Luckily in the dark time, I was able to be encouraged and lifted up by so many around me. So many others reached out to tell me their stories and provide comfort to knowing that there would be joy again.

I chose to get out of that dark hole. There is still a piece missing of my heart now and always will be. But I'm comforted in knowing that Jesus is holding my child and God's promises remain.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. -Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

You see, I could've very well stayed in that hole. But I choose joy. I choose to be thankful for the blessings God has provided me with and not to dwell on those He has not. God has a plan. And it is simply how we deal with life storms that make our lights shine. We can let the light go out, or we can let it get brighter.
