“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others” (Romans 12: 4 - 5)

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

The theme there? Community. Have you ever found yourself, like me, in some seasons of life seeking independence while others seeking togetherness? As one who deeply identifies with a strong and declared independence, I struggle with the word community. Better yet, I struggle with the act of community because I’ve learned it is truly an act requiring work, dedication and development.

As the verses state, God created us to be together. He didn’t just create Adam or just create Eve, He created them both. He created disciples for Jesus, families for each of us, He created each of us to join Him in His kingdom, one day.

So, yeah, this whole life thing we are doing, we aren’t meant to do it alone. As hard as it is to turn to others at times, it is crucial to reach out for a hand, even when life is great.

Rest in this: It’s ok to need others. It’s ok to crave others. It’s ok to seek others out, especially through Christ.

I often joke that making friends as an adult is one of those things that “No one tells you how difficult it actually is”. I have been praying hard to build a community through + with Him. It’s been months of ‘on the knees’ prayers. What’s beautiful is I am seeing those efforts come to fruition. Therefore, wherever you find yourself in life, think of how you can build a community through Christ… How can you develop yourself alongside others, in a community, bound with like-minded values? “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them”.
