We are officially in the holiday season. It’s a quick slide from Halloween to Thanksgiving and then through the festivities to the end of the year. This is the time of the year we are reminded of all we have, of time well spent with family and friends, of the fleeting moments because it’s “that time of the year already," once again.

We see the beauty in the changing seasons, eat all of the glorious foods and relish in the moments of slowness we allow ourselves to enjoy for a couple of days out of each year.

As I age, I see and love this time of the year even more. It is truly a wonderful, glorious time. It is like an unspoken thing we have with one another; we’re all going to be a little more kind, see the blessings we have and give a little more of our hearts through kind words, gifts and time together.

It truly is wonder wonderful, don’t get me wrong, but I often ponder on the ‘what if’ mentality of this time of the year; what if that’s how we lived every season of life? When you take away the gifts, the food (the extra 10 pounds of stuffing and turkey, let’s be honest), the extravaganza of it all, what do we have?

We have time together, with loved ones, in celebration of thankfulness and gratitude for all that we have.

Doesn’t that sound like a good way to live all of the time? “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
