And the one sitting on the throne said, look, I am making everything new” -Revelation 21:5 (NIV)

These words were revealed to the Apostle John as a promise from God. For us, today marks the start of a new year. This may bring determination to keep resolutions, create new beginnings, or set goals. We often use the calendar for deadlines and what we wish to accomplish. However, if you’re like me, we can end up disappointed when we fail to achieve what we’re after.

While we can dwell on tangible items, we are not guaranteed happiness as a result of obtaining them.

Ultimately, I pray we desire being made new from something much greater and precious—our Creator. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 we read, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun” (NLT). When we ask the Lord into our hearts, He changes us from within. Our once selfish motives transfer into caring for others. We long to learn from and become more like our Heavenly Father. Our past is gone, and we no longer have to live by our old ways; our sin has been forgiven!

Sweet sisters, join me in speaking this prayer today: Dear Lord, allow me to realize I can only be made new through you. “Create in me a clean heart, O God” (Psalm 51:10, NIV). Amen. John’s words are just as meaningful and relevant now as they were when first revealed to him. We have been blessed with the chance to be born again in Christ. May this New Year’s Day be a reminder of hope and the promise of a wonderful year to come!
