Daily Delight

These past few weeks, I have been going non-stop. For me, it seems like the first of the year can become a time when my calendar gets filled with new activities, appointments, and planning for the months ahead. While it may be a fresh start, I sometimes miss the most important meeting—time in devotion.

Instead of my morning Scripture reading, I choose to sleep in a few extra minutes. My nightly bible study gets neglected for my newsfeed on Facebook. Not only have I dismissed every opportunity to be with the Father, I haven’t cared about doing so; and my life has been negatively affected as a result. I’ve found myself becoming quickly angry at the people around me. My patience is non-existent, and I’ve become bitter at God for some of my life circumstances. To be honest, I’ve been miserable.
Sweet friends, if you have found yourself at one time or are currently in the same situation, there is hope! Psalm 73 describes it perfectly, “Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside . . . Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand . . . My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever” (vv. 21, 23, 26, NLT).

We have a Creator who will always be here for us. Just because we have become distant, He hasn’t. His presence was, is, and always will be with us. He will never let us go. The Word of God will always provide comfort and peace when we need it. When we find time to connect with our Father, our lives will be changed for the better. A lyric from one of my favorite songs beautifully claims, “When You come in the room and do what only You can do, it changes us, it changes what we see and what we seek." His love changes everything. His love changes us for good!
