When I was in college, I got to a point of being so busy that I neglected my spiritual walk. With all the papers, studying, working, and little sleep, Jesus was set aside. It took a toll on my heart and attitude, but during those months I didn't know what I could possibly sacrifice in my schedule to have time with Him. I kept telling myself: "Once I graduate, I'll focus on Him, I just need to get through school.

Do you see the problems with my mentality? First, I made Jesus part of my schedule, rather than living my life with Him at the center. Time set aside each day for God is amazing, but I learned that's not all there is to it. God doesn't call for 30 minutes every morning. He calls for us to abide in Him, to pray without ceasing, and to meditate on His Word day and night (John 15:4; 1 Thess. 5:17; Ps. 1:2). These terms mean constant—a non-stop way of life. During that year, I learned what it was like to really live that out. It meant talking to Him as I walked to class, pausing during a test to whisper His name in my heart, meditating on a verse all day as I was doing school, and more. It meant being with Him with no certain "Jesus schedule." Simply, it meant abiding.

Secondly, I assumed I had tomorrow. James 4:13-14 tells us tomorrow is not promised. Yet I thought I should put off time with my Father until I "actually had time for Him." Friends, we don't know what tomorrow holds. Don't be as foolish as I was for those months to put aside your spiritual growth because you feel too busy. Let us learn what it means to truly abide in Him each day. We don't know how many days we have, and we also don't know that our next season will be any less busy than the current one. I'm finished with college now and finished with that insane workload. But I still feel very busy. It's funny how that works.

Sisters, I encourage you to switch from fitting Jesus into the schedule to abiding in Him every moment of every day, whether busy or relaxed. Do not wait until tomorrow.
