When Waiting Feels Like Wandering: Trusting God in the In-Between
When the Wait Feels Heavy
“I’m still waiting for an opportunity to publish,” I explained to a friend over coffee. The words stung as soon as they left my mouth. I knew God had called me to write this book, but years had passed. Had I heard Him wrong? Should I move on?
Later that day, through tears, I sensed God whispering to trust His timing—especially when I questioned it.
God Never Wastes the Wait
Waiting is never easy. Whether you're hoping for a dream to be fulfilled, a deep longing to be met, or healing to finally come, waiting can feel like wandering through a desert. But with God, waiting is never wasted. He uses it as sacred space—where He shapes, refines, and prepares us.
David's Delay Wasn’t a Denial
Think about David. In 1 Samuel 16, he was anointed as a young shepherd boy. But he didn’t become king overnight. In fact, it would be years before he wore the crown—years filled with hiding in caves, fleeing Saul, and wrestling with fear.
To the world, it may have looked like God forgot. But David’s waiting season wasn’t a delay in God’s plan—it was the preparation for it.
What God Does in the In-Between
God often does His deepest work in the seasons we’d rather skip. In the quiet, He strengthens our faith. In the stillness, He reveals what needs to be surrendered. In the waiting, He teaches us to trust Him—not just for the outcome, but with our whole heart.
David leaned into God during his hardest days. That intimacy shaped him into more than just a king—it made him a man after God’s own heart.
Don’t Despise the Wait
If you find yourself in a season of waiting and wondering, don’t despise the in-between. It’s holy ground.
You’re not being overlooked or forgotten. You’re being refined. God isn’t withholding good—He’s producing lasting fruit in you.
So don’t rush it. Embrace it. Let God move in this sacred space. When the door finally opens, you’ll see how every moment was woven into His perfect plan.
A Prayer for the Waiting Season
Lord, help me trust You when I can’t see what’s ahead. Teach me to lean into the quiet and believe You are working—even when I don’t feel it. Use this season to shape me into the woman You’ve called me to be. Thank You for never wasting the wait. Amen.
Scripture to Carry with You
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time.” —1 Peter 5:6 (CSB)
