Grace Upon Grace: Finding Strength in Christ When You Feel Like You're Not Enough
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. -John 1:16 (ESV)
The Weight of Falling Short
That familiar ache returns—the feeling that you're not good enough. The laundry is piled high, the words you wish you hadn’t said linger, and the moments you snapped when you meant to speak gently replay in your mind. You know grace is real, but today, it feels far away.
Christ’s Fullness, Not Yours
In those dark, heavy moments, remember this: grace isn’t poured out sparingly. It doesn’t trickle. It pours.
John 1:16 reminds us that we have received from His fullness—grace upon grace.
Not from our performance.
Not from our strength.
But from Christ’s fullness.
This is not a one-time grace for salvation alone. It is the daily, sustaining grace of the Lord—unearned, unending, and undeserved. Christ doesn’t give us barely enough to make it through. In Him, there is abundance. When your heart condemns you, remember:
“There is more mercy in Christ than sin in you.” —Richard Sibbes
The Beauty of Rest
Scripture points us to this: we bring nothing to the table... Christ brings everything. In Him, we are united—fully known, fully loved, and fully covered.
His grace doesn’t run dry because His fullness never does.
So today, when guilt whispers, “You’re not enough,” you can agree—and rejoice.
Because you were never meant to be enough.
But Christ is.
And He has given you grace upon grace.
Scripture to Anchor Your Heart in His Fullness
Romans 5:20 – “…where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”
Ephesians 1:7 – “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 – “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
A Prayer to Rest in His Grace
Lord, I come empty, but You are full. Remind me today that Your grace is not just enough—it is abundant. Teach me to rest not in my striving, but in Your sufficiency. Amen.
