Crowned with Heaven’s Light: Embracing the Sacred Beauty of Aging in Christ
Do you ever glance in the mirror and hardly recognize the woman looking back? Maybe new lines have formed around your eyes, or silver strands now dance among once-vibrant locks.
Our culture urges us to erase these traces, to chase after youth as if it were our highest calling.
But sister, let’s remind each other—aging is a sacred gift from the Lord, a gentle unfolding of His grace across the canvas of our lives. In a world that worships youthfulness, God draws our gaze deeper, inviting us to see aging through a far more glorious lens.
Renewed Day by Day
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16 (ESV)
Our bodies may bear the marks of time, but our spirits? They are being polished, strengthened, and beautified by the very hands of Jesus at work in us. Each season brings new depth—a wisdom earned only through walking with Him through sunlit fields and shadowed valleys.
A Crown of Glory
Proverbs tells us, “Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life” (Proverbs 16:31, ESV).
What the world rushes to cover, God in His wisdom chose to call a crown of splendor—weaving this truth into His Word to remind us of the honor found in years walked with Him.
God cares far more about the quiet work unfolding inside us—our patience deepening, compassion widening, trust in Him solidifying—than any outward beauty that fades.
A Sacred Invitation
Let’s celebrate what an honor it is to age!
Next time we study our reflection, may we pause and thank Him—for the years, the lines, the silver threads—each a tender testimony that He’s not finished with us yet.
Let’s rejoice that while the outer changes, our inner lives become ever more like Jesus—we are crowned with heaven’s light.

Liezl is a South African-born Aussie, wife to the man of God she once prayed for, and mama to two Jesus-loving littles who keep her on her toes and on her knees. Somewhere between school runs, managing projects, and her household, she’s learning — again and again — who she is in Christ, and finding that grace shows up right in the mess.
Her greatest desire? That her words carry heaven’s breath—that, like the woman with the little jar of oil in 2 Kings 4, God would multiply what she offers in faith and obedience to overflow into the lives of many.
