Obedience: Our Pathway to God’s Promises

We call them blessings — but sometimes, the very gifts God gives us can take His place in our hearts.

Careers, relationships, ministries, or even our children can become the center of our affection instead of the Lord.

What if letting them go is the first step toward stepping fully into God’s promises? The story of Abraham and Isaac shows us that obedience is not just an act — it’s a heart posture of trust.

Abraham’s Ultimate Test of Faith

In Genesis 22, God tested Abraham in the most gut-wrenching way:

“Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you” (Genesis 22:2 NIV).

Imagine the ache in Abraham’s heart. The weight of that command was unimaginable. Yet here’s what moves me deeply: Abraham didn’t hesitate or argue.

The very next morning, he rose early, prepared everything, saddled his donkey, took his servants and Isaac, and set out. Every action — every step of that three-day journey — was full surrender in motion (Genesis 22:3).

No dragging feet. No half-hearted obedience. Just a quiet, steady trust that God was bigger than his pain.

Worship Before Provision

Before reaching the mountain, Abraham told his servants:

“Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you” (Genesis 22:5).

Pause with me here — worship before provision. Abraham bowed his heart first, trusting God before seeing how things would unfold.

The Lord Will Be Seen

Mount Moriah means “The LORD will be seen.” Abraham climbed carrying a knife, fire, and something else… hope. A heart fully surrendered, trusting God’s faithfulness.

And then, in God’s perfect timing, the test stopped. Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in a thicket — God’s provision (Genesis 22:11-13).

Proof that God sees. God provides. God is never late.

Obedience Unlocks the Promise

Because Abraham chose obedience, he walked the pathway to God’s promises — blessings that impacted his life, generations after him, and the world (Genesis 22:17-18).

And this isn’t just Abraham’s story — it’s ours too.

From Moriah to the Cross

Centuries later, God gave us the ultimate sacrifice — His Son Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29).

Our surrender and obedience matter because they’re never wasted. They are seeds that produce a harvest of God’s presence, provision, and promises.

Your Step of Obedience Today

What idol is God asking you to surrender today?
What step of obedience feels scary or costly right now?

Sister, press in. Come before God with worshipful surrender. Step out believing that the LORD will be seen — and His blessings will follow.

Her greatest desire? That her words carry heaven’s breath—that, like the woman with the little jar of oil in 2 Kings 4, God would multiply what she offers in faith and obedience to overflow into the lives of many.
