Come Away and Rest: Finding Peace and Renewal in Jesus
There are days when your body feels like it’s running on fumes. You realize you’ve reheated the same cup of coffee three times but haven’t taken a single sip. You’ve been needed in a hundred little ways but haven’t had one moment to breathe.
If you’ve felt stretched thin and worn out, you’re not alone. Even the disciples knew what it meant to feel depleted.
Jesus Invites You to Rest
In Mark 6, after the disciples poured themselves out in ministry, they hadn’t even had time to eat. And Jesus didn’t ask them to give more. He didn’t applaud their busyness.
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” — Mark 6:31 (ESV)
Jesus extended an invitation:
To rest. To breathe. To be with Him.
Rest was not a reward for finishing the to-do list. It was the way He cared for them.
When Rest Feels Impossible
Motherhood can make rest feel impossible—or even selfish. There’s always another meal to make, another load of laundry to fold, another little heart to shepherd. But the One who knows your limits calls you to rest.
Not because He’s disappointed in your effort, but because He loves you too much to let you run on empty.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do in a busy season is to step back, breathe, and ask the Lord to restore your soul.
Rest Is an Act of Surrender
Here’s the promise: when you rest in Him, the weight doesn’t fall apart in your hands—it rests in His.
The same Jesus who multiplies loaves and calms storms is more than able to carry what feels too heavy for you.
Rest is not giving up.
Rest is giving it back to Him.
A Simple Prayer for Rest
Jesus, thank You for caring about my rest as much as my work. Help me hear Your invitation to step away, even in busy seasons. Restore my mind, body, and soul so I can keep loving well from a place of overflow, not depletion. Amen.
