When Life Feels Like Too Much: Trusting God with the Weight You Carry
The Croissant That Broke the Dam
My eyes welled with tears after our pup ate my croissant off the kitchen counter. But let’s be honest—it wasn’t about the croissant. It was the difficult circumstances, emotions, and turmoil bottling up inside me. Leading up to that moment, I had watched my father battle aggressive cancer, struggled with crippling anxiety and depression, faced autoimmune issues, and lived under the weight of chronic stress.
When “This Is Too Much” Becomes Your Reality
Well-intentioned Christians often say, “God will never give you more than you can handle.” But I cringe at those words.
God absolutely gives us more than we can handle on our own. Perhaps you’ve thought, “This is too much.” Me too, sister.
When life feels unbearable, it reveals how little we were meant to rely on our own strength. And here’s the good news: God’s power thrives in our weakness.
Casting Your Cares on the One Who Can Carry Them
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” — Psalm 55:22 (CSB)
David understood that “cast your burdens” means to fully entrust them to God, rather than trying to carry them alone. God has no weight restrictions. David knew that God Himself bears the weight of our burdens—He is more than capable of carrying them.
Run to Jesus—He Will Sustain You
When you’re feeling overwhelmed and defeated, run to Jesus and press into Him. His strength is more than enough to sustain you.
“But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (CSB)
He Has Not Forgotten You
The Israelites had suffered for decades under oppression, wondering if God had forgotten them. Their circumstances felt hopeless and unchanging.
But their suffering didn’t thwart God’s plan of redemption. He had rescued them once in Egypt—and He would do it again.
Isaiah challenges us all to remember who Yahweh is and what He has done. His faithfulness remains.
A Comforting Reminder for the Weary
God is our source of unwavering strength and eternal hope. We can trust Him with our heaviest burdens and our weariest days.
Don’t carry what you were never meant to carry alone.
God’s got you, friend.
