Armor Up: Standing Firm in the Spiritual Battle
Are you armored up for the fight?
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (NIV).
Maybe you feel the weight of this truth more than ever—the presence of a very real enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10, NIV). Perhaps you’re overwhelmed by the growing boldness of evil in our world. Or maybe it has shown up at your doorstep, picking a personal fight with you.
God is not surprised by these battles. Jesus warned us: “In this world you will have trouble.” Sadness, hardship, and trials are not just possible; they are promised. But He also said, “Take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NIV). This is our anchor of hope.
Keeping Our Eyes Fixed on the Savior
When the darkness presses in, we must lift our eyes to Jesus, the One who has overcome. Scripture calls us overcomers in Him: “For everyone born of God overcomes the world” (1 John 5:4, NIV).
The fight begins the moment our feet hit the floor each day. Whether God has called you to a classroom, workplace, public platform, or the playroom floor, the instructions remain the same: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11, NIV).
Equipped With the Armor of God
We are not underdogs in this fight—we already know who wins the victory. That truth gives us courage to overcome, not with evil, but with good (Romans 12:21, NIV).
The world feels the weight of this spiritual struggle. Neighbors are searching for meaning. Classmates and co-workers long for answers. Do they see hope in us? Do they notice something different?
Scripture urges us to be ready:
With the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15, NIV)
To “always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15, ESV)
This is not accidental—you have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28, NIV).
God Equips Us for the Battle
You are here in this time and place on purpose. And the good news? God equips His people with everything needed to obey Him: “May He equip you with everything good for doing His will” (Hebrews 13:21, ESV).
So we stand firm, clothed in the armor of God (Ephesians 6), confident that He who called us will also sustain us. And as we do, may we remember this blessing:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13, NIV).
