A Strong Tower: Finding Refuge in the Name of the Lord

When life is overwhelming.
When fear presses in.
When your heart aches.

When the mountains seem impossible to climb.
When the enemy whispers lies.
When hope feels out of reach.

In moments like these, when you just need somewhere to turn—

Where can you run?
To whom can you run?

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.” — Proverbs 18:10

The Strength of His Name

The Lord Almighty—His name is strong. His love is steadfast and sure. His grace abounds.

The name of the Lord is not just a comforting phrase or religious expression. It’s a place of refuge. A mighty fortress. A safe haven. When everything feels uncertain or shaken, His name remains firm, reliable, and trustworthy.

He offers shelter and security. And those who run to this strong tower are truly safe.

Who Can Run to Him?

Did you catch the detail in Proverbs 18:10? It’s the righteous who run to Him.

But who is righteous? Can we honestly say we qualify?

Friend, here’s the good news: Jesus makes us righteous.

Because of His death and resurrection—because of the complete and finished work of the cross—not only are our sins forgiven, but we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21

The Father looks upon the perfect work of the Son, and it is the Son who stands in our place. Through faith in Him, our stains are wiped clean, and we are covered in robes of pure white.

So yes, we can run to Him. We get to run to Jesus.

Shelter in the Storm

Just as you would seek shelter when it starts to pour, Jesus provides protection and safety in the middle of life’s storms.

That doesn’t mean every trial will vanish or that the road will suddenly smooth out. But it does mean that no matter what you’re facing, you can know this: You are safe in Christ. You dwell secure in Him.

Jesus Welcomes You In

Even more beautiful? Jesus wants you to come to Him.

God is full of grace and love for His children. Psalm 147:11 reminds us:

“The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those who hope in His steadfast love.”

When we approach Jesus in faith, trusting and hoping in Him, it brings joy to the heart of God. It’s His love that draws us close.

So don’t wait.

Run to the Tower

Whether your heart is weary or your spirit feels shaken—
Whether your life is heavy with burdens or questions that won’t go away—
Run to Jesus.

His name is a strong tower. You can run to Him and dwell safely.

Reflect

In what ways has God been a refuge for you recently? How might you practice running to Him more quickly and fully in this season?
