He Will Never Cast You Out: Finding Comfort in John 6:37

In the face of sin, trial, and despair, our hearts are prone to discouragement and doubt. Pain and disappointment can leave us spiraling.

I can’t believe I messed up again.
Will this ever get better?
I give up.

God—have You given up on me?

If you’ve ever found yourself asking these questions, you’re not alone. Our hearts need an anchor when the storms rage.

God’s Word: Our Anchor in the Storm

Thanks be to God, we can come to His Word—living and active—and be reminded of our Good Father. His Word, full of truth and promises, realigns and refreshes our weary hearts.

In John 6:37, Jesus says:
“All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out” (ESV).

What a clear and heart-lifting promise! Let’s take a closer look at what makes this verse such a comforting anchor for our souls.

The Father Initiates and Sustains

First, notice that it is the Father who initiates and sustains our salvation. Jesus says, “All that the Father gives me…”—reminding us that we are not the authors of our faith. The Father gives. The Father calls. The Father saves.

In the verses that follow, Jesus explains that He came to do the will of the Father. God is not only the initiator—He is the one who carries the work to completion.

We Come Because God Draws Us

There is also a beautiful guarantee here: those whom the Father gives to the Son will come to Him. Since it is God who calls, it is God who ensures the response. It’s not dependent on our effort, our righteousness, or our willpower—it is by His power and grace that our hearts are drawn to Jesus.

Jesus Will Never Cast You Out

Finally, Jesus makes an unshakable promise: “whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”

Ever.

Because God has set His affection on you, He has sealed you as His child forever. You are adopted, accepted, and loved. There is no sin too great, no past too messy, no failure too final that could ever separate you from His love.

He will not cast you out.
He will not walk away.
He will never change His mind about you.

Resting in the Promises of God

Friend, the reason we can rest in these promises is because they’re not based on us—they’re based on Him.

God reveals Himself to us.
God convicts our hearts.
God opens our eyes to the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ alone.

And it is God’s Spirit within us that gives us the grace and strength to turn from sin, to love others, and to walk in joyful obedience.

He Loves You More Than You Know

God loves you more than you could ever love Him. His love is not conditional on your performance. No matter how many times you fall, He lifts you up again. He welcomes repentant hearts because His grace never runs dry.

Jesus welcomes you.
His heart is for you.
And He will never cast you out.
