When Life Gets Interrupted: Trusting God’s Plan in Everyday Disruptions
How many times a day do you start in one direction, only to be pulled into another?
You intended to finish a set of chores, but your crying little one needed you.
You were working on a project, but your boss asked you to prioritize an urgent task.
You were about to sit down to read your Bible, but a friend called, wanting to talk about a struggle she’s facing.
Life is full of disruptions and redirections. When we look at our to-do lists at the end of the day, it’s easy for our hearts to sink if we haven’t accomplished what we planned.
And that’s when the questions come:
Am I failing?
Am I doing enough?
Am I pleasing God?
Interruptions are inevitable… so how can we navigate them in a way that honors God?
Looking to Christ’s Example
When we look at the life of Jesus, we see that He encountered interruptions nearly everywhere He went.
Jesus was asleep in the boat when His disciples woke Him to calm the storm (Mark 4:35–41).
On His way to heal Jairus’s daughter, He stopped to heal the bleeding woman (Mark 5:21–34).
In His perfect omniscience, Jesus knew each of these moments would happen. He knew He would be interrupted and redirected. And yet, He responded with compassion, faithfulness, and submission to His Father’s will.
God’s Sovereignty in Life’s Redirections
Jesus’ ministry reminds us that much of our service to God will not be planned by us, but placed on our path according to the Father’s design.
What we might view as disruption is, in reality, God’s sovereign hand at work. Trusting God’s plan means believing that He knows best—even when it means moving in a new direction.
When we walk in faith through these divine redirections, God is glorified.
Encouragement for the Interrupted Heart
So, when things don’t go according to plan—or you feel like you’ve gotten off course—remember these truths:
God’s Word will always succeed and accomplish His purpose (Isaiah 55:11).
He is working all things together for His glory and our good (Romans 8:28).
Take heart, friend. God sees you. Even in the midst of interruptions, He is using you to accomplish His will.
Reflection Questions
What do interruptions reveal about my heart?
Where do I see God’s sovereign hand at work?
Final Thought
Navigating interruptions as a Christian is not about rigidly holding onto our own plans but about walking in step with the Lord. Following Jesus’ example, we can approach each redirection with faith, knowing God’s will in everyday life is far greater than our own agenda.
When we see interruptions through the lens of faith in daily life, they no longer feel like obstacles—they become opportunities for obedience, growth, and God’s glory.
