When Waiting Feels Like Standing Still: Trusting the God Who Is Still Completing You

I could feel tears begin to form in my eyes. I know being invited as the group “aunt” is a privilege, but if I am honest, I would really love to push a stroller of my own.

It was an ordinary Monday. The moms and work-from-home women in our community gathered in the parking lot, ready to tackle a three-mile walking trail. Each woman had someone to hold onto: a newborn tucked into a carrier, a toddler with quick feet, or a puppy pulling at a leash. Some had two little ones to lovingly guide along.

Everyone except me.

I did not realize how hard it would be to exist beside them. It had never hurt before. But that was before we learned I might not be able to have a little one of my own. This is where the Lord and I have been meeting lately — in this mix of deep love for their babies and a quiet ache in my soul for one of my own.

When Waiting Feels Like Standing Still

We spend so much of our lives waiting for something to begin: a new season, a new calling, a new dream. We scroll through other people’s stories, wondering when ours will finally unfold. We whisper the same question over and over again:

“When will it be my turn?”

But what if this moment, the one that feels like standing still, is exactly the place where God is working most deeply?

Waiting is not wasted time in the hands of God. It is often the sacred space where He shapes us, comforts us, and prepares us for what we cannot yet see.

The God Who Completes What He Begins

Philippians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Paul wrote these words from prison, reminding the Philippian church that God was still active in their spiritual growth even when circumstances suggested otherwise. In the same way, this verse reminds us that God does not start something He does not intend to finish.

God’s timeline is not delayed. It is deliberate.

What looks like stillness to us is steady, purposeful movement in His hands. When we cannot see progress, it is easy to believe nothing is happening. But God’s faithfulness is not tied to what we can see or measure.

The same God who began something beautiful in you is still at work — in the quiet, in the waiting, and in the wondering.

You Are Not Being Overlooked

Sometimes the waiting season feels like a holding pattern, as if God is blessing everyone around you while your own prayer remains unanswered. But Scripture consistently reveals a God who sees, remembers, and finishes what He starts.

The next step will come when it is time.
The open door will appear when it aligns with His wisdom.
The desire of your heart will be met in a way that reflects His love and purpose.

Until then, trust this: you are not being overlooked. You are being completed.

You do not have to rush what God is refining.
You do not have to chase what He is still cultivating.

Waiting is not punishment. It is preparation.

The God who called you is still completing you.

A Prayer for the Waiting Season

Father, thank You for being faithful even when I cannot see what You are doing. Help me trust Your timing when my heart wants to hurry ahead. Teach me to rest in the truth that You never waste a waiting season. You are always completing the work You began in me. Amen.
